In the time of technological advances and the internet, it is convenient for many individuals to access these support sites. It allows for real-time communication among people from different points around the globe.
It's been predicted that more women participate in group counseling than men.It is not known why for sure, but many support groups urge for support from both men from women. It's been thought that since women tend to relapse less than men, more women participate in counseling.

However, these people are not doctors. If there's harm involved, these people highly suggest seeing a doctor.

Anonymity is key.This means no proper names. Again what is said in the forums or the chat rooms, stays there. While some support groups allows for personal e-mail communication (at a point), some solely prohibit any type of personal communication at risk of trolls.
